You are Formally Invited to DIY

I have been busy. Making some pretties. All kinds of them. If you read the launch post, you caught onto the fact that I recently got engaged. I probably don't have to tell you what that means...

...DIY projects for the wedding! Hooray!

If you don't know this yet, know it now: I love DIY. I secretly wander around stores looking at stuff [everything] thinking "I could make that, I could make that, I could probably make something like that, I could make that, I have made that." I like everything about it. I like the process, seeing how things are done, having total control over the style and final project...being able to go directly to the producer with any praise or criticism. :) As soon as I started thinking wedding, I started thinking crafts and DIY projects...I even told my mom I wanted to make my own dress, and my own cake, and my own food...

There are lots of other things, though--reasonable, sane things--to which I have put my crafting interests concerning the wedding, the invitations being one of the first.  I love love love the way they turned out, so I thought I would share them with you.

They were really simple. Below are pictures of all of our invitation ingredients, of which, the only things not included are the cutting boards and scissors we used, the tea used to stain the lace, and our printer:

Once we printed and cut our cardstock pieces we stuck them together with these babies (found at Meijer's):

They worked like a charm! Held fast enough to hold everything in place, but they weren't so "super-strength" that they tore the paper when guests opened the invitations.

Put 'em together, and whaddaya got? Bippity boppity invitations!

I loove them. The image on the front was one I found on Google and then edited in Paint (archaic, maybe, but it worked).  The poem was a collaborative effort between myself, Dan, and my parents. I didn't think the traditional, "The honor of your presence is requested at the union of lala and lala" really fit Dan and I...so we opted for something a little more personal, and a little different. Seriously. I couldn't be more happy with them. In my mind, they encompass everything I'd like the wedding to be: simple, sweet, and fun. They are the exact invitations I wanted...

...and they didn't cost a penny more than they would have if I had gotten them from a box. Seriously. I did the math. (AndthenhadDancheckitbecauseI'mawfulatmath.)

I'll leave you with this final (and favorite) picture I took of the lace while it was drying from being tea-stained. I want to fill a whole room with lace, hanging like this, and just let the sun filter through it while I daydream and read.

Ahhhh I love that. It makes me want to put flowers in my hair.

Well that's all for now. I'll be back with more DIY projects for the wedding, and of course the house is my favorite on-going DIY project, and you'll hear more about that, too. All in good time. For now, have a snazzy day.
